Description

The FirstNet mission is to deploy, operate, maintain, and improve the first, high-speed, nationwide wireless broadband network dedicated to public safety. This reliable, highly secure, interoperable public safety communications platform will bring 21st century tools to public safety agencies and first responders, allowing them to get information quickly and helping them to make faster and better decisions. This breakout session will touch on the timeline of events leading up to FirstNet, the technical aspects associated with FirstNet and future operational considerations.

Vice President of Public Safety, Black & Veatch

Chris Krafft is the Vice President of Public Safety within Black & Veatch’s Telecommunications business. He is responsible for the overall direction, business development and strategy of the Public Safety business. Chris has presented on the opportunities offered by FirstNet and its impact on the public safety market.

Paul Scutieri

Sales Director, Black & Veatch

Paul Scutieri is the Public Safety Sales Director within Black & Veatch’s Telecommunications business. He has more than 25 years of experience providing public safety solutions at the federal, state and local government levels. His industry experience also includes management of extensive government-based technology projects, modernizing existing Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) first responder radio communications systems. Paul has been a key player in Black & Veatch’s efforts to support the construction of the National Public Safety Broadband Network currently being managed and implemented by the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet).

Kyle Burns

Emergency Management Coordinator, City of Overland Park

Kyle Burns retired from the Army in 2013 after 20 years of service as an Infantry Officer. He has an MPA from the University of Kansas and is currently the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Overland Park.

Steve Johnson

Senior Manager of Proposals, Black & Veatch

Steve Johnson currently serves as our Senior Manager of Proposals within Black & Veatch’s Telecommunications business. His career spans over 20 years in wireless communications. Steve has an extensive understanding of FirstNet, through his involvement in the recently awarded FirstNet competitive bid.

Scott Dicus, P.E., P.Eng

Engineering Manager, Electrical – Automation, Black & Veatch

Scott Dicus manages the Electrical Automation section within Black & Veatch’s Telecommunications business. Additionally, Mr. Dicus leads project teams in the planning, design and implementation of telecommunication systems. He has provided technical guidance to the State of Nevada and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to prepare them for the evaluation of the state plans developed by FirstNet and he has presented on how public safety organizations can prepare for LTE.
